This was a pretty stellar site for a hike n' fly. I soared the bowl for a few passes before cutting out front and crossing over to Kearsarge pass. The South ridge of Mt Gould gave me great thermals to top out then the back side was even better with the late afternoon sun.

Launch is either on the large flat shoulder of Mt Gould just North of the summit. I launched in an East wind out towards the valley but it could probably be launched backside with West wind as well. If you do launch West side and you plan on landing to the East be careful that the lee side conditions are manageable and that you can maintain enough elevation to make it through Kearsarge pass. Watch out for rocks grabbing your lines. It's a pretty clean take-off but it is just a bed of rocks so try not to break anything. The launch is nicely sloped so plenty of time to run, adjust and abort. Landings are plentiful depending on what your plan is. I landed in the parking circle area of Kearsarge campground however if you can't make it that far you can side hill just about anywhere you want. It is probably possible to fly out to the valley and land anywhere and the road, watch out for power lines of course though. From the Owen's Valley take the exit to go to Kearsarge campground. Follow the main trail to Kearsarge pass from Kearsarge campground (2-3 hrs). From Kearsarge Pass, head North up the steep ridge of Mt Gould (Class 2-3). This may take 1-2 hours depending on skill and conditioning. You can save time by avoid the summit proper and navigating around it by staying on the West side. None known, campground host had no problem with me flying in. None known, campground host had no problem with me flying in.

Super strong conditions in the summer, frequent thunderstorms, high winds, etc. Expect usual Owens Valley conditions
